Life Groups Resources

What are Life Groups?

Life Groups are an intentional way of getting to know others and interact about what you heard in the worship service. Each group is small and a group shepherd guides the discussion. Groups meet at various times and places during the week. Please email us HERE or call us at 626-963-9423 to get plugged in.

For the week of May 14, 2023

Read Luke Ecclesiastes 1:3-11 Together:

What do people gain from all their labors
    at which they toil under the sun?
Generations come and generations go,
    but the earth remains forever.
The sun rises and the sun sets,
    and hurries back to where it rises.
The wind blows to the south
    and turns to the north;
round and round it goes,
    ever returning on its course.
All streams flow into the sea,
    yet the sea is never full.
To the place the streams come from,
    there they return again.
All things are wearisome,
    more than one can say.
The eye never has enough of seeing,
    nor the ear its fill of hearing.
What has been will be again,
    what has been done will be done again;
    there is nothing new under the sun.
10 Is there anything of which one can say,
    “Look! This is something new”?
It was here already, long ago;
    it was here before our time.
11 No one remembers the former generations,
    and even those yet to come
will not be remembered
    by those who follow them.

FOLLOW UP WITH THESE DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  • Discern what the text is saying:  What does Solomon think about the cyclic repetition of nature and the cycles of human experience? How does the phrase “under the sun” create a boundary for his viewpoint?
  • Apply what God is saying: Where is God in life’s cycles and what do you know of his viewpoint?
  • Do what God instructs: In what ways do you limit your life “under the sun”? How can you broaden your perspective?
  • Support and help each other: What in your life assists you in lifting your head up to see beyond the sun?
