About Friends

Our Story

Glendora Friends Church began in 1950 in Azusa, CA. After moving to Glendora in 1978, our church continued to grow and serve the San Gabriel Valley, making disciples to send out to the wider world. We’re excited to see God at work in and through us to serve people at home and abroad. We are part of Friends Church Southwest, a family of churches filled with people who believe we are better together. We share resources to reach out to our communities.

Worship with us each Sunday at 10:00AM. We meet to honor God and align our lives with what He tells us to do through the Bible. Expect vibrant music and Bible-based messages.

Grow Groups meet weekly, with new groups forming every few months. Grow Groups include Life Groups, Bible studies, book discussions, and disciple-making and topical studies. Kids meet Sundays following the first part of our Worship Service.

Our purpose as a church is to serve God by sharing our faith with others, helping the needy, volunteering with local charities, supporting and going out as missionaries, and reaching out to our neighbors in practical ways. We are part of Friends Church Southwest, a family of 40+ churches in California, Arizona and Nevada.

What We Believe-An Affirmation of Faith

These Biblical beliefs, briefly and simply stated, express our understanding of the Christian faith.

WE BELIEVE…

…in the one and only God, who exists eternally in three persons—Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

…all humans, male and female, were created by God, in his image, to be loved and known by him, but our relationship with him and our very nature has been broken by sin, making us all subject to God’s judgment.

…all of our world, physical and spiritual, was created by God. Our world is broken by sin and remains in corruption and rebellion and in need of God’s redemption.

…God’s gift of his Son is the only and all-sufficient way we can be saved from the guilt, power and eternal consequences of our sin and restored to a full relationship with him. We receive this salvation only through our repentance and faith in the atoning death and bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ.

…Jesus’ sacrifice is sufficient for salvation because He is truly God’s Son—fully human and fully divine.

…the Holy Spirit will lead those who believe in the Lord Jesus into transformed lives marked by increasing conformity to Christ’s goodness and holiness. This transformation is accomplished through obedience and self-denial by the believer and cleansing by the Spirit.

…in one universal Church, which is made up of all who have been saved by faith in Jesus Christ and obey him.

…human history will come to an end when Jesus returns and we will be raised from the dead.

…the Bible is the inspired and authoritative written Word of God and is entirely trustworthy. We are obligated to obey its teaching.

Jesus is at the Center

All people need God’s free gift of eternal life to return to a relationship with God and live with Him for eternity. We all must individually receive this gift, because we can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting the shed blood of Jesus Christ as God’s provision for forgiveness can you be saved from sin’s penalty (eternal death). Eternal life begins the moment you receive Jesus Christ into your life by faith as an act of God’s grace. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

STEPS TO BECOMING A CHRISTIAN

Recognize God loves you and created you to have a personal relationship with Him. “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” John 17:3

Understand your sin fractures your personal relationship with God. “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

Know that only through Jesus Christ can you have a personal relationship with God. “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

Repent. The need to turn from sin is key in mending the broken relationship and to obtain forgiveness from God. “Repent and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out.” Acts 3:19

Personally respond through prayer by trusting Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. “Yet to all who did receive Jesus, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12
